Thursday Night #4

Ruthie's work consists of sculpture pieces and instillation's. A lot of her work consists of using light to get shadows in which she traces. Through this she discovered how to make her own stencils for light. She draws the shadows of bones from road kill that she finds on the side of the road.  She makes post cards with dates and something about that day that she experienced on the back of it, which has been very successful.

Kelly's work is very different. It's more technology based. She's a graphic artist and a painter(and also a hair stylist). A lot of her work consists of images made in Photoshop for video games.

Their concerns as artists are similar in the ways that have to do with their passion and dedication. They both have been living a life of an artist for a very long time. Kelly attended Cornish for a little while and then switched to beauty school and became a hair stylist. She had passion for what she did, but she also had passion for art that didn't involve hair, so she made the decision to go back to Cornish to finish what she started, but came back with more determination. Ruthie had the same passion as Kelly did when she returned to Cornish when she went to the East. She experienced so much with nature and used that to drive her work. They both are interested in and use research in their work.

Their concerns as artists differ because of what they are both interested in. Ruthie is more focused on nature and her day to day experiences(post cards/used pillow cases), and the good and the bad of something you love. Kelly is more interested in fantasy and obticals. She is inspired by sound. To Kelly, art is love.
