Thursday Night #8

What are the values and concerns that Sanroman brings to her work as an independent curator? In what ways can curation alter the work of an artist?

The concerns Sanroman brings to her work as an independent curator is mainly based around citizenship, drug cartel, fear, government, etc.  An example would be The Proyecto Civico Project, which tackled the issue about citizenship, drug cartel and fear. People were scared of leaving their houses, they were scared of each other. The main question was "Why do certain cities become taken over by violence?" 18 artists represented the wish for self-reflection on who we are, how we function in society, and how we constitute. The connection between the citizenship and city is a big deal, especially to Sanroman.

A way that curation can alter the work of an artist is having no time to work on their own things. Being so busy with helping other artists set up takes up enough time as it is, there is really not much room to do personal work. But I do believe she is making art by curating. She has topics that mean something to her,and she is bringing artists together to make art relating to those topics and making meaningful pieces.
